<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst for cracking of hydrocarbons which has excellent oxidation resistance in steam reforming comprising mixing methane-based lower hydrocarbons with water vapor to react, excellent catalyst activity even in a low-temperature reaction and excellent coking resistance even under low-steam conditions. <P>SOLUTION: The catalyst comprises magnesium, aluminum, and nickel and also contains one or more elements selected from alkali metals (excluding Na), alkaline earth metals (excluding Mg), Zn, Co, Ce, Cr, Fe and La. The average particle size of fine particles of metal nickel is 1-10 nm, and the content of metal nickel is 0.1-40 wt.% to the amount of the catalyst and 0.0007-0.342 to the sum of moles of all the metal ions constituting the catalyst. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
