516,594. Jet pulverizers. ALLEN SHERMAN HOFF CO. June 30, 1938, No. 19433. Convention date, April 1. [Class 59] A method of disintegrating and removing solid material, such as petroleum coke, from a vessel comprises subjecting the material to the breaking action of a high-pressure stream of water, discharging the water and broken solids from the vessel, separating the discharged solids from the discharged water and forcing the separated water back into the vessel in the high-pressure stream. As shown, material in a container 1 is broken up by water jets from a pipe 4 which may be revolved by a handle 9 or mechanically. The material falls into a hopper 11 which may feed the material to sizing and crushing rolls 12, 13, the crushed material falling through a sieve 14 to a sump 15. A centrifugal pump 16 draws material and water from the sump and discharges it to a collecting and settling tank 18, the solids being discharged through outlet 22 and the liquid passing through louvres 19 and pipe 20 to a reservoir 24. A pump 27 withdraws water from the reservoir and discharges it through pipe 28 to tube 6 which may also be supplied with water under pressure through pipe 29. The pipe 4 is connected to a pipe 5 slidable in the tube 6. The material from pipe 17 may be discharged into a pile, the water draining back to the reservoir 24. |
