A waste water heat exchanger comprises of an inner cylinder through which heated waste water flows and an outer cylinder surrounding the inner cylinder and through which a fluid flows that is to be heated by the waste water. The heat exchanger may be used to recover heat from waste water from a shower and the heat used to heat fresh cold water that may be used to preheat cold water entering an electric shower or mixer taps. The heat exchanger may be manufactured from copper tube and insulated with polythene cell insulation and adapted to fit waste water pipe using compression pipe fittings. A small/short version of the heat exchanger may be used before a waste water trap or a longer version may be used after the trap. A series of heat exchangers may be used to increase the amount of heat recovered. The use of the heat exchanger may increase water flow rate at a desired temperature and reduce energy consumption. |
