A receiving method in a multiple input multiple output system and an apparatus thereof are provided to determine the certain number of candidate symbols for the correspondent symbols through a group slicing that uses a virtual constellation. A receiving method in a multiple input multiple output system comprises the steps of: receiving receptions signals through plural receiving antennas; grouping the symbols corresponding to the reception signal and rearranging the symbols for each group(701); converting the reception signals by applying QR disassembly to the receptions signals; removing the interference for all candidate symbols among the first symbols corresponding to the rearrangement from the reception signals; determining some candidate symbols based on the candidate symbol combination(704-714); and calculating the log-likelihood ratio for the first symbols(706,716).
