The unit (2) for the pulsed bipolar control of a high power piezo actuator (1) with rectangular voltage pulses is powered from a single-phase supply (6). The actuator cycle sets the reloading (58) at the time point (61) by the ignition of the reloading thyristor (11). As the actuator voltage at the time point is virtually zero, a negative output voltage value (65) is at the output voltage of the second direct current/direct current (DC/DC) converter (8) at the end of reloading remaining until the start of charging (59) through ignition of the charging thyristor at a time point (66). Between the start (66) of charging and the end (72) of discharging, the flyback converter transistors (35,37) remain blocked.
