A printing press or papermaking assembly has a rotating drum with a surface skimming blade. The blade (18) consists of a main material matrix and an inner core (32) of filling material. There is a gradual transition between the core and the main matrix extending from the blade cutting edge to the blade clamping root zone. - The filling material concentration increases towards the blade tip. The increase in concentration is linear. Also claimed is a manufacturing process in which the blade is made by injection molding of suitable materials into a form that is then centrifuged and cured.
