A semiconductor switch is provided with a main element, which has a reverse conductive characteristic and is a voltage-driven switching element having a high withstand voltage; an auxiliary element, which is a voltage-driven switching element having a withstand voltage lower than that of the main element; and a high-speed free wheeling diode having a withstand voltage equivalent to that of the main element. The negative electrode of the main element and the negative electrode of the auxiliary element are connected to have the positive electrode of the main element as a positive electrode terminal, and the positive electrode of the auxiliary element as a negative electrode terminal. The high speed free wheeling diode is connected in parallel between the positive electrode terminal and the negative electrode terminal, so that a direction from the negative electrode terminal to the positive electrode terminal is a forward direction.
