A process for producing silicon which comprises bringing metal particles (Mp) and a halogenated silane (G1) into contact with each other in a reactor (3) to reduce the halogenated silane (G1) and thereby obtain silicon, wherein an atomizing gas (G2) is blown against a molten metal (Mm) to thereby supply the metal particles (Mp) into the reactor (3) and the metal particles (Mp) and the halogenated silane (G1) are supplied into the reactor (3) in a cocurrent manner. Since the metal particles (Mp) and the halogenated silane (G1) are supplied into the reactor (3) in a cocurrent manner, the metal particles are inhibited from undergoing convection or circulation in the reactor and the conversion of the halogenated silane through reaction with the metal particles can be heightened.
