The sub-assembly (300) has a light source i.e. vertical cavity surface emitting laser (320), overlaid on a photodetector (310) i.e. photodiode, at an end (315) of a light waveguide (105) i.e. optical fiber. The light source emits light with luminous intensity through surface area of the end of the waveguide, where the light intensity is significantly lower in a central disk of the end of the waveguide than in a ring of the end of the waveguide. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for mounting an optoelectronic sub-assembly (2) an electronic portable device comprising an articulation crossed by a light waveguide.
