Surfactant composition comprises alkyl glucoside mixture (1) (5-90, preferably 10-70 wt.%), alkyl pentoside mixture (2) (10-95, preferably 30-90 wt.%) and rest of the composition constituted of alkyl glycoside compound (3), with the exception of impurities, where the sum of proportions of (1) and (2) is not 100%. Surfactant composition comprises alkyl glucoside mixture of formula (R1O(G)a) (1) (5-90, preferably 10-70 wt.%), alkyl pentoside mixture (R2O(P1)b) (2) (10-95, preferably 30-90 wt.%) and rest of the composition constituted of alkyl glycoside compound of formula (R3O(P1a)b1(P2)b2(P3)b3(P4)b4(P5)b5) (3), with the exception of impurities, where the sum of proportions of (1) and (2) is not 100%. R1, R2, R3 : 8-22C hydrocarbon, preferably n-octyl, n-decyl, n-dodecyl, n-tetradecyl, n-hexadecyl, n-octadecyl, arachidyl or behenyl; G : glucose residue; a, b : 1; P1 : pentose residue comprising xylose or arabinose, preferably xylose; either b1-b5 : 0 or 1; or b1+b2+b3+b4+b5 : 1; and P1a, P2-P4 : sugar comprising glucose, xylose or arabinose.
