The door has an armrest (4) movable between a normal position, in which the armrest serves as a supporting element for arms of an occupant (10), and a bottom position in which the armrest serves as a protection element for protecting the pelvis of the occupant. The armrest is displaced from the normal position to the bottom position by a pivoting unit e.g. hinge, during an external lateral impact in the door. The pivoting unit pivots the armrest around a horizontal pivoting axis (A) parallel to the door, where the armrest is made of anisotropic material.
