The method involves utilizing a treating device comprising chemical element addition units to add chemical elements in fill water or remove certain chemical or bacteriological elements previously contained in the water. The device is non-embarked on an aircraft, uninstalled and unfixed to the ground, where the device is partially or completely disposable. The device is maintained between a fill water supply pipe (6) and a fill water orifice of the aircraft. The water is passed inside the device to purify the water before storing the water in a drinking water tank (7). An independent claim is also included for a device for treating water filling a drinking water tank of an aircraft during operation of the aircraft.
