PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve operability in each of portable terminal devices that execute data exchange with each other. SOLUTION: During start-up when power is first inputted to each portable terminal device A, B by a user after the purchase, telephone-book data for mutual exchange (a telephone number and a mail address or the like of one's own station) or image data such as a face photo of a user is prepared in advance together with a prescribed initial setting such as a time setting so as to store it in data storage parts 23, 43 for mutual exchange. When the telephone-book data are transmitted by the portable terminal device A, the type of data is inputted and telephone-book data 24a corresponding to the type of data inputted from the data storage part 23 for mutual exchange is read out by a terminal control part 21 so as to transmit it from a data transmission part 11. When receiving the telephone-book data 24a by a data receiving part 31, the portable terminal device B stores the telephone-book data in a memory 35 and discriminates the data format of the telephone-book data so as to reply and transmit telephone-book data 44a of the same data format.
