<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video recording device for a vehicle, selectively recording a video of a camera for the front and a video of a camera for the rear according to situations in front and the rear of one's own vehicle. <P>SOLUTION: This video recording device for the vehicle alternately repeats periodic execution of measurement of a first continuous time and a first inter-vehicle distance between a forward vehicle and the own vehicle, and periodic execution of measurement of a second continuous time and a second inter-vehicle distance between a rearward vehicle and the own vehicle, determines the second continuous time about the measurement of the second inter-vehicle distance periodically executed after the first continuous time lapses based on the first inter-vehicle distance measured within the first continuous time, and determines the first continuous time about the measurement of the first inter-vehicle distance periodically executed after the second continuous time lapses based on the second inter-vehicle distance measured within the second continuous time.
