PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hard coating for a cutting tool excellent in wear resistance in cutting a high hardness hardened steel. SOLUTION: The hard coating for a cutting tool formed on a base material includes: a multilayered coating layer composed of two or more layers alternately layered by a first coating layer and a second coating layer, wherein the first coating layer is a coating layer containing at least Al and Cr as metal components, N as a non-metal component, and incidental impurities, and the second coating layer is a coating layer containing at least Ti and Si as metal and semi-metal components, N as the non-metal component, and incidental impurities, and a film thickness per one layer of the first coating layer and the second coating layer are respectively set to be 1 nm or more and 20 nm or less, and when the multilayered coating layer is observed by a cross-section TEM method, it is found that a mixed structure part exists where the first coating layer and the second coating layer are mixed, and an area of this mixed structure part is 5% or more and 80% or less of this multilayered coating layer.
