PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multi-optical axis photoelectric sensor for significantly reducing the ratio of mutual interference occurring between itself and another multi-optical axis photoelectric sensor and of enhancing safety. SOLUTION: The multi-optical axis photoelectric sensor includes: a light projection head in which a plurality of phototransmitters are disposed; a light reception head in which a plurality of photoreceivers are disposed; and a monitor means for synchronizing light projection/reception period for each optical axis to perform light projection/reception operation, and for monitoring the presence or absence of intrusion of an object into a given area based on detected light at a given cycle, wherein the monitor means suspends the light projection operation one time per a plurality of given cycles, the plurality of times being set to random times based on unit of a plurality of cycles, and wherein the monitor means outputs a signal for suspending the operation of external control equipment when light interception is recognized during consecutive light projection/reception period for at least two cycles or more excluding a cycle in which light projection operation is suspended.
