PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To clean a surface with a prion-infected substance by an alkaline cleaning solution, and to remove a protein-like substance from the surface as much as possible. SOLUTION: The cleaning agent is an alkaline cleaning agent of attacking prion remaining on the surface and of attacking the prion removed from the surface during a cleaning process. A solution of a surfactant, a buffering agent, and a corrosion inhibitor containing no heavy metal is circulated on the surface at 50-60°C, after the cleaning solution is discharged. The surfactant disperses the prion-contaminated substance, and eliminates coagulation. A strong oxidizing agent, preferably a peracetic acid is added at 1,000-2,500 ppm of concentration to the solution. The peracetic acid or the other strong oxidizing agent attacks the prion, in particular, a prion chain released from coagulation, to inactivate the prion. The surface is wrapped with a microbe-impermeable barrier, after rinsed and dried, to be subjected to the final sterilization (for example, a steaming autoclave). COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
