PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an accelerator that generates small-diameter electron beams having a structure suitable for downsizing and can generate electron beams of high energy with small diameter and accelerated. SOLUTION: The accelerator that generates the electron beams of small diameter is a cylindrical accelerator and includes: an electron gun portion of an axial symmetry structure consisting of a thermoelectron source, a focusing electrode, and a positive electrode; and a pre-buncher portion of an axial symmetry structure, which performs acceleration and prior bunching (modulation) of electron current from the electron gun portion integrally (A). The accelerator further includes: a buncher portion (B) of an axial symmetry structure at the front stage of the accelerating portion, for further bunching and accelerating the electron current modulated at the pre-buncher portion; and a back-stage accelerator (C) which further accelerates the output of the buncher portion (B).
