[Class 8 (ii)] [Also in Group I] A plunger 6 reciprocating within a filter element 2 forces the fluid in front of it reversely through the filter element to clear it, while the fluid behind passes through the hollow plunger rod 7 to filtrate outlet 12. The plunger rod 7 has apertures 14, 16 below and above the plunger, which apertures are controlled by a sleeve valve 18, held by a spring 23 so as to close the aperture 16 during upward movement of the plunger, but moved down against the spring by a cam 28 to close the aperture 14 during the downward movement of the plunger. The cam 28 is fixed to a shaft 25 from which the plunger rod is reciprocated by a crash and connecting-rod 26. A fabric filtering- medium or an edge filter may be used. |
