<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress lowering of a saturated signal amount of a photoelectric conversion part when the size of a photoelectric conversion part is minimized. <P>SOLUTION: A vertical scanning circuit 114 sets a gate of a transfer transistor 102 to first potential V1 in a first period TP1.
