PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an active MMI type semiconductor laser which provides good element characteristics by restraining lowering of slope efficiency. SOLUTION: The semiconductor light-emitting element has an active multi-mode interference waveguide 110b and a current control structure 104b which is formed in accordance with light intensity inside the waveguide 110b and controls a current amount inside the waveguide 110b. Reactive current is satisfactorily reduced, and at the same time coupling loss is reduced to nearly zero, by the current control structure 104b. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
