PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable terminal device reducing the number of depressions required for entering desired characters or the like. SOLUTION: A portable terminal device 11 is provided with: ten keys 16 with a fingerprint detection function for detecting the fingerprint of fingers; a fingerprint collation engine 18 for collating the fingerprint of fingers having pressed the ten keys 16; a memory 20 for mapping patterns; a CPU 12; and a display section 22. The memory 20 for mapping patterns stores mapping patterns 30 with the types of the ten keys 16 associated with lines of the Japanese syllabary and further with the fingerprint of fingers associated with rows of the Japanese syllabary. When ten keys 16 are pressed, the CPU 12 controls to identify pressing fingers according to a result of collating fingerprints by the finger collation engine 18, refer to the mapping patterns 30 and select the identified characters to display on the display section 22.
