<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control method for an optical sensor that detects a different image feature, which obtains a longer service life in a light projecting means for the optical sensor and reduction in consumed power, etc. <P>SOLUTION: The control method for the optical sensor samples image feature data for a prescribed number of times by: projecting light by a light projecting means to a test pattern for inspecting the image feature; and receiving reflected light from the test pattern by a light receiving means.
