PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an I/O system (remote terminal and the like) capable of high-speed communication with an I/O slave of an extended network connected via a field bus. SOLUTION: A remote terminal 20 has an I/O unit 22 for connecting I/O equipment, a communication unit 21 provided with a master function communicating with the I/O unit, and an extended unit 23 for connecting an extended network by a second field bus 12. An internal bus 25 and a second field bus in the remote terminal adopt the same communication protocol. The extended unit is provided with a physical layer for the internal bus, a physical layer for the field bus, and an ASIC (Application Specific Integrated Circuit) as a conversion part for converting the physical layers.
