The cutter (10) has a cutter head with cutter side pieces (34, 42), which are pivotable relative to each other. A cutting-bending-device (64) with a blade and a force loading area for bending a workpiece area is arranged at the cutter side piece (34). A supporting device for the workpiece with an opening is arranged at the side piece (42). The bending-device is immersable into the opening. The bending device is designed such that the force loading area affects the workpiece area when a cut is brought at the workpiece area. An independent claim is also included for a method for cutting a metal band with a cutter.
