摘要 <p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for overcoming an adverse hydrogen aging limitation caused by phosphorus and/or aluminum doping for low cost and high performance of multimode optical fiber. <P>SOLUTION: Adverse hydrogen aging limitations in multi-element doped optical fibers are overcome by passivating these optical fibers using a deuterium passivation process. This processing essentially pre-reacts glass with deuterium so that most active glass sites are no longer available to react with hydrogen in service. Optical fibers of main interest are doped with mixtures of germanium and phosphorus. Optimum passivating process conditions are described. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT</p>
