PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrodeless discharge lamp which has a bulb of loop shape, has good starting performance after storing in a dark place for a long time in turned-off state, and in which deterioration of luminous flux of a light-emitting portion in appearance of the bulb and unevenness of emission color are prevented, and to provide a lighting apparatus using the same. SOLUTION: The electrodeless discharge lamp includes: a bulb 1 of loop shape in which amalgam (not shown here) made of zinc and mercury and discharge gas are filled thereinside, the bulb being formed of a translucent material; ferrite cores 2, 2 which are arranged in a shape to cover part of the bulb 1 and formed of a magnetic material; and an induction coil 3 which is wound around at least part of the ferrite core 2 and generates high-frequency electromagnetic field in the bulb 1 by being made to flow with high-frequency current. Then, a long after-glow phosphor layer 13b is formed on the inner wall of a portion covered with the ferrite cores 2, 2 out of the bulb 1. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
