PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a means for improving processability of heat-resistant polymers and formability of a porous layer, in obtaining a nonaqueous electrolyte battery separator by forming a heat-resistant porous layer such as aromatic aramid in a wet coating method, on one or both faces of a fine porous film made of polyolefin or the like. SOLUTION: Of the nonaqueous electrolyte battery separator provided with a fine porous film mainly formed of thermosetting resin having a shutdown function, and a heat-resistant porous layer mainly formed of heat-resistant polymers and laminated on one or both faces of the fine porous film, a molecular weight distribution Mw/Mn of the heat-resistant polymer satisfies 5≤Mw/Mn≤100, and that, a weight-average molecular weight Mw of the heat-resistant polymer is 8.0×10<SP>3</SP>to 1.0×10<SP>6</SP>.
