PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical scanning device which is started at high speed, and a starting method of an oscillation mirror. SOLUTION: The optical scanning device includes an oscillation mirror configured to be rotatable along a predetermined shaft; a drive means 111 for driving the oscillation mirror 1 at a predetermined drive frequency; a control means 113 for setting the drive frequency; a storage means 114 for storing drive characteristic data of the oscillation mirror 1; and an environmental detection sensor 106 for measuring an environmental parameter of the oscillation mirror 1. The control means 113 refers to the drive characteristic data at starting to estimate a resonance frequency of the oscillation mirror 1 in the environmental parameter measured by the sensor 106, and determines the drive frequency at starting based on the estimated resonance frequency.
