PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a writing utensil which is of such a structure that a sliding piece is allowed to slide smoothly and stably inside a guide groove for the inner piece. SOLUTION: In this writing utensil 1, guide sides 40a and 50a of the guide grooves 40 and 50 and slide sides 41 and 51 of the slide grooves 7a and 7b, are formed in an inverted truncated chevron shape of section. Consequently, even in case, for instance, a dimensional dispersion occurs in the guide grooves 40 and 50 as well as the sliding pieces 7a and 7b during manufacturing, the guide sides 40a and 50a of the guide grooves 40 and 50 seldom hold down the sliding pieces 7a and 7b. Therefore, the sliding pieces 7a and 7b can slide smoothly and stably inside the guide grooves 40 and 50 under the restriction by the inclined cam surface 12a and a spring 8 of a drive cam 9.
