PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of easily forming a satisfactory image even in a spread original. SOLUTION: A control part detects the background density of a first area on a first page (S14) and then, detects the background density of a second area on a second page (S16). Then, the control part discriminates a density difference between the density value of the background of the first area and the density value of the background density of the second area. When the discriminated value is compared with a prescribed value to find that the density difference is equal to or greater than the prescribed value (YES in S17), the control part detects a background density of a prescribed area (S18). Then, the control part adjusts the background density of an image to be formed (S19). Concretely, the background density of the image to be formed is adjusted on the basis of the background density of the first area on the first page and on the basis of the background density of the prescribed area on a second page.
