PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyester resin for an electrostatic charge image developing toner which, when it is used in an electrostatic charge image developing toner, ensures less fogging of a non-image portion and less change over time in the lightness of a fixed image at a high-temperature and high-humidity environment, and can suppress non-visual offsets, when the use environment is shifted from a high-temperature and high-humidity environment to a low-temperature and low-humidity environment or the use environment changes from high temperature and high humidity to low temperature and low humidity. SOLUTION: The polyester resin for an electrostatic charge image developing toner contains sulfur atoms and strontium atoms and/or barium atoms, and satisfies expression (A): 0.4≤Y/X≤1.9 and expression (B): 2,000≤X≤10,000, where X represents the content (ppm) of the sulfur atoms by fluorescent X-ray measurement, and Y represents the total content (ppm) of the strontium atoms and barium atoms. There are also provided a method for manufacturing the polyester resin, an electrostatic charge image developing toner, an electrostatic charge image developer, an image forming method and an image forming apparatus.
