PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve characteristics equivalent to the high positioning accuracy of round hybrid stepping motors by a hybrid stepping motor in a square shape and equalize counterelectromotive force and thereby improve vibration characteristics. SOLUTION: In a laminated motor stator, slits equal in width in the circumferential direction are formed at the four corners of its stator core substantially in a square shape. The back yoke width of the square hybrid stepping motor is thereby made equal from phase to phase. As a result, the flux leakage in each phase is made equal. When the magnetic circuits are equalized, a high positioning accuracy is obtained and the causes of unequal counterelectromotive force are removed.
