Methods of using compatible solutes cyclic 2,3-diphosphoglycerate (cDPG), 1,-di-glyccrol phosphate (DGP), firoin and firoin-A, and/or derivatives of these compounds or combinations thereof, for treating skin conditions such as dermatoses and age spots. The methods include the application to the skin of a cosmetic and/or dermatological preparation containing the compatible solutes.
