PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a noncontact torque detection system which can reduce errors caused by the adhesion of dust. SOLUTION: Light passing grooves are formed on both axially end faces of a rotating shaft body being an object to be measured in the radial direction, or light passing holes which pass through the rotating shaft body in the radial direction are pierced at positions spaced apart from each other by a predetermined distance on the peripheral surface of the shaft body. A light beam from a light emitting section is irradiated on the peripheral surface of the rotating shaft body from a side in the normal direction. A light-receiving/processing section receives the light beam passing through the light passing grooves or light passing holes. Relative displacement between each light receiving timing is detected, thereby measuring the axial torque of the rotating shaft body. The light passing grooves or light passing holes are preferable to be protrusively formed in the same direction. The light passing grooves or the light passing holes can be formed in a plurality of pairs at each regular angular interval around an axis of the rotating shaft body. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
