PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus of a transfer/cleaning system, for more uniformly scattering transfer residual toner on an intermediate transfer body for uniform charging. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus 100 includes: an image carrier 1; an intermediate transfer body 6; a primary transfer member 5 that primarily transfers a toner image from the image carrier 1 to the intermediate transfer body 6; a secondary transfer member 8 that secondarily transfers the toner image from the intermediate transfer body 6 to a transfer material P. The image forming apparatus 100 is configured such that in a primary transfer section N1, toner remaining on the intermediate transfer body 6 after the second transfer is reversely transferred to the image carrier 1 from the intermediate transfer body 6 simultaneously with the primary transfer. In the image forming apparatus 100, a first charging members 11 upstream of a second charging member 12, the memvers being located upstream of the primary transfer section N1 in the moving direction of the intermediate transfer body 6, slides on the surface of the intermediate transfer body 6 as the intermediate transfer body 6 moves. The second charging member 12 is disposed in contact with the intermediate transfer body 6 and is moved in the same direction as the intermediate transfer body 6 in this contact area.
