<p>The structure has two supporting bars (3) that are arranged at both sides of an expansion joint (1) and are connected to each other. A cover plate (8) bridging the expansion joint lies on the supporting bars, where the horizontal mobility of the cover plate is limited by stops. The cover plate has bearing bars (10) with stop surfaces (13) which stay in engagement with stop surfaces (14) of stop bars (12) provided at the supporting bars. An undercut is provided in the bearing bars and the stop bars.</p>
