An encoding/decoding method and an apparatus thereof using consecutive motion estimation capable of performing encoding/decoding operation of the current block are provided to improve compression rate of image decoding by predicting the current block. A video encoding apparatus searches a first reference picture by using a current block. The image encoder produces a first prediction block(610). The image encoder searches the second reference picture by using the generated first predicted block. The image encoder produces a second predicted block(620). The current block is encoded into the image encoder based on the first predicted block and the second predicted block(630).
