A coupler locks two floor panels (1) in a mutual position in which the upper edges (14) of the respective floor panels are located in same horizontal plane. A space (S) is formed between the sides of the floor panels at a location corresponding to the height position of the upper edges. The coupled floor panels in the mutual position are mutually locked at least in horizontal direction, while the space defines a mutual distance of 1 to 3 millimeters between the upper edges.
