A liquid crystal thermostat monomer or oligomer, and a thermosetting liquid crystal polymer composition using it are provided to improve flame retardancy, heat resistance and mechanical property when a printed circuit board is prepared. A liquid crystal thermostat monomer or oligomer is represented by the formula 1 and has the both ends which are capped with the maleimide having at least one methyl group, wherein R1 and R2 are CH3 or H, and at least one of R1 and R2 is CH3; and Ar1 is a divalent aromatic organic group comprising one or more structure units selected from the group consisting of esters, amides, ester amides, ester imides, and ether imides and having a molecular weight of 5,000 or less. The liquid crystal thermostat monomer or oligomer has a molecular weight of 300-5000.
