A discharge lamp lighting circuit is provided to prevent local temperature rise by operating a first converter and a second converter by turns. A discharge lamp lighting circuit uses a low frequency AC lighting mode. The discharge lamp lighting circuit includes a power source(1), a switch(SW0), a first converter(CON1), a second converter(CON2), switching devices(S1,S2), a starter circuit(2), a discharge lamp(3), and a control circuit(4). The first converter and the second converter boost a DC voltage received from the power source. The control circuit operates the first converter and the second converter at a first frequency by turns. The control circuit connects an output of the stopped converters to a ground through the switching devices. A low frequency AC power is supplied to the discharge lamp by repeating operation/stop of the first converter and the second converter under control of the control circuit.
