Provided is a transmissive liquid crystal display device having a small display characteristic fluctuation, bright display, high contrast and a small view angle dependency. The transmissive liquid crystal display device is at least provided with, in sequence in this order from the backlight side, a polarizing plate; a second optical anisotropic layer having a phase difference value of 50-180nm at a wavelength of 550nm; a first optical anisotropic layer having a phase difference value of 20-140nm at a wavelength of 550nm; a homogeneous orientation liquid crystal cell wherein a liquid crystal layer is sandwiched between an upper substrate and a lower substrate arranged to face each other; a third optical anisotropic layer having a phase difference value of 50-200nm at a wavelength of 550nm; and a polarizing plate. The first optical anisotropic layer is composed of at least a liquid crystal film with a fixed nematic hybrid orientation structure.
