The device (1) has an array (3) of grids (9, 10) positioned in a flow area (8), where a major part of a fluid flow (2) moves in a direction perpendicular to the grids. The flow area extends downstream from the grid (9) and upstream from the grid (10), so that a segment (11) of the flow area lies between the grids, when the device is in a working condition. Another segment (12) of the flow area is located upstream of the segment (11) and is covered with particulate material.
