METHOD AND APPARATUS TO CONTROL A TRANSMISSION POWER IN A COMMUNICATION SYSTEM

A transmission power control method in a communication system and an apparatus thereof are provided to prevent a case that a BS does not receive a signal transmitted from an MS, and improve the performance of an OFDMA(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access) communication system. An MS(300) determines a default value of the transmission power to transmit a QPSK(Quadrature Phase Shift Keying) 1/2 data to a BS(350)(311), and then compares the levels of modulation/FEC(Forward Error Correction) rates of the previously transmitted QPSK 1/2 data and currently transmitted BR(Bandwidth Request) CDMA code in order to transmit BR CDMA code(313).
