The method involves entering into an altimeter mode by activation of an altimeter module of an electronic watch. Pressure values (P1, P2) used for calculating altitude values (H1, H2) are calculated by respective pressure sensors. A function of variation of pressure between the values and a determined variation threshold (Sv) are compared by a variation detector. The altimeter mode is automatically released when the comparison result is greater than the threshold. The display of the altitude values by analog display units is stopped. An independent claim is also included for an electronic watch comprising a pressure sensor.
