The sub-assembly has a handle (24) to open a rear opening (14) i.e. rear lateral door, of a motor vehicle (10), and control areas (36) that are activated at contact of touch of a finger of a user so as to control locking of the opening. The control areas belonging to a part of the vehicle are distinct from the handle, and are accessible from outside of the vehicle. The handle is blocked in a glass central post (15) of the opening. Each control area comprises a capacitive tactile sensor (30) positioned at an inner side of a glass panel (16) associated to the post. An independent claim is also included for a motor vehicle comprising a free hand access system associated to a sub-assembly.
