<p>Disclosed is a multilayer optical film which enables to remarkably improve the contrast ratio in an oblique direction, while improving viewing angle characteristics when used in a liquid crystal display or the like. Also disclosed are a liquid crystal panel using such a multilayer optical film, and a liquid crystal display. Specifically disclosed is a multilayer optical film comprising a polarizer, a first optical compensation layer and a second optical compensation layer in this order. The first optical compensation layer has the following refractive index profile: nx > nz > ny, and is arranged in such a manner that its slow axis direction is substantially parallel with or orthogonal to the absorption axis of the polarizer. The second optical compensation layer converts a linearly polarized light into a circularly polarized light, or alternatively a circularly polarized light into a linearly polarized light in the visible region. ® KIPO & WIPO 2009</p> |
