PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wheel bearing device improving the sensitivity of a rotation detecting sensor and the sealing performance of a seal. SOLUTION: The wheel bearing device comprises rolling elements laid between each of double row rolling surfaces on the inner periphery of an outward member (a fixed side member) and each of double row rolling surfaces on the outer periphery of an inward member (a rotary side member) opposed thereto. An axial type magnetic encoder 17 is fitted to the outer peripheral face of the inward member. It consists of a sectionally L-shaped slinger 16 having a cylinder portion 16a pressed and fixed into the outer peripheral face of the inward member and a rising plate portion 16b rising from the bearing outside end thereof, and a multipolar magnet provided on the rising plate portion 16b. The rising plate portion 16b of the slinger 16 has an inclined attitude at an acute angle to the cylinder portion 16a in the natural condition that it is not mounted on the inward member, and an attitude perpendicular to the cylinder portion 16a in the condition that it is pressed into the inward member 2.
