The system (1) has a steering axle (3) led into a steering housing (2) and connected with a steering hand wheel. The axle works together with a translatively moved axle steering mechanism (4) for guiding wheels of a motor vehicle. A steering auxiliary drive is provided with a motor for power steering. The auxiliary drive exhibits a transmission arrangement e.g. wave transmission device, for effective connection with the mechanism. The transmission arrangement is provided with an output, which works together with the mechanism over a traction unit (7) in a force-transferring manner.
