PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector in which usability is improved by taking temporary measures before a light source lamp is forcibly turned off if a filter clogs. SOLUTION: The projector includes: a first suction port 30 that has a first filter 40 for suppressing entry of dust into a housing 5 and sucks air from the outside of the housing 5; a second suction port 31 that also sucks air; first and second cooling fans 22 and 23 that eject air sucked from the outside of the housing 5 in order to cool an optical member accommodated in the housing 5; an opening/closing lid 60 for opening or closing the second suction port 31; an opening/closing drive part 25 that opens or closes the lid 60; an internal temperature detecting part 26 and an external temperature detecting part 27 that detect clog of the first filter 40; and a cooling control section 20 that performs control such that if the external temperature detecting part 26 and internal temperature detecting part 27 detect clog of the first filter 40, the opening/closing driving section is driven to open the lid 60, thereby opening the second suction port 31.
